Friedrich Barth

Friedrich Barth is a Partner of the TWF Institute, on its Belgium Desk.

His career has been spent in the institutions that sit between public policy and industry. He has been Managing Director of German Water Partnership and of the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre, a Senior Advisor at the United Nations Development Programme, and a Team Leader at the European Commission. Each of those is a convening role, bringing government, industry and research to a common agenda.

What characterises his work is a conviction that entrepreneurship is how a commitment becomes a practice. He founded the Global Entrepreneurship Centre and led it for four years, and he holds that supporting entrepreneurs is central to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris climate agreement and a circular economy.

He served for eleven years as Vice Chairman of the European Water Partnership, and for six on the board of the EU chapter of the Club of Rome.
