We are delighted that you are visiting the website of The Water Foundation and thank you for your interest in our Foundation. We are committed to protecting your privacy while you are using our site.

We count visits to this website with Plausible Community Edition, which we host ourselves on a server in Nuremberg, Germany. Hetzner Online GmbH runs that server and processes the data on our behalf as our hosting provider. Nobody else receives it.

The analytics set no cookies and store nothing in your browser, and your IP address is not stored. To count unique visitors, your IP address and your browser's user agent are combined with a value that changes every day and kept only as a one-way hash. The old value is deleted, so your visits cannot be followed from one day to the next. When a visit is recorded, your country, region and city are worked out from your IP address on our own server, and only these are kept.

For each visit we record the page, the website you came from, your browser, operating system and type of device, how far down the page you scroll and how long you stay.

We also count how the site is used: links followed in the menu and the footer, buttons, links to other websites, downloads, email links, films started or paused, and the controls of our interactive pages, such as the water explorer, the water footprint calculator and the audio guide. A visit to a page that cannot be found and a form being sent are counted as well, never with what the form contains.

None of this is recorded with your name, an email address or anything you type, and the answers you give the water footprint calculator never leave your browser. We do not try to find out who a visitor is, and we do not combine these statistics with other data.

We use these statistics to understand how the website is used, to improve it, and to see in which countries, regions and cities our work is read, our work with cities in particular. This is our legitimate interest, and the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We delete the record of each visit after 24 months.

You can object to this at any time (Art. 21 GDPR). The switch below excludes this browser from our statistics. It keeps a single setting in your browser for that purpose.

Write to us at the address above. Our statistics are kept without your name or IP address, so we usually cannot tell which records are yours (Art. 11 GDPR). The switch under Website Analytics is the way to stop your visits being counted.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
